"We were just trying to stay in the air. We thought if we can get 2 million people a week to watch or 3, we’re good. Then we did the episode where Kurt tries out for the football team and comes out to his father. The show at that point really took off. I think that the episode and those performances and that writing and direction that Brad did, it became a water cooler thing. Then after that, I was so shocked that I got so much feedback. ’That episode made me talk to my Dad.’ Or, ‘That episode showed me how to talk to my child.’ I thought so you can do entertainment and maybe do something responsible and socially relevant."
