In a recent interview with radio host Gayle King, Colfer revealed he never had to come out gay to his parents.
When King asked Colfer if the show’s coming out storyline, in which his father accepts his son, mimicked his own coming out experience, he answered: “I never had to. I was just accepted for who I was.”
“And I hope one day we live in a world where people don’t have to,” he added. “Where they don’t have to make a huge grand announcement.”
