Defying Gravity, Glee Live, May 2010 [x]
They’re just so sweet!
I love them!

” Every year in high school, we’d have this talent show, and every year I’d beg to sing “Defying Gravity” and every year they turned me down because I was a boy and they said it was a girl’s song; and every year I protested, saying that there are no lyrics that indicate gender specification whatsoever, but they’d still turn me down. “
Chris Colfer
Remember that time when Chris Colfer sang this song on Glee, and all those people felt like idiots?
“I once told Ryan Murphy a personal story about how when I was in high school, I used to beg the students and the teachers in my drama program every year to let me sing Defying Gravity from Wicked in our talent show. And every year they would turn me down, mostly because the girls were bitter because I could sing it and they couldn’t…”

Apparently, for better or worse, this will be the last season of Kurt Hummel on Glee. As a huge Chris and Kurt fan, I’d like to write about what I find meaningful in Kurt’s story, Chris’ performances, and the way that the character Kurt Hummel and the performer Chris Colfer are linked together, not through similarities, but through counterpointing moments in their stories. Wheels is an obvious place to start because it provides the most salient example of this. If you are trying to explain the cultural phenomenon and significance of Kurt Hummel to someone in a single episode, this is the episode that you need to go to.
(I admit that I’m also trying to create a spell for season 3: maybe if I call upon all of the elements that have made this show significant for me, I’ll get to see a final season that is rich with these elements. That sounds very superstitious, but it’s worth a try :)
Oh, and, yeah, this is lengthy …
Because Chris’ bromance with Mark Salling is awesome. They’re like bros, yo!
Who are you the closest to on the cast?
“I’d say Kevin, Naya, Jenna, and Chris. I probably hang out with them the most. (…) Chris is young. He’s 19, so we look after him when we go out. I do feel like an older brother to him, and some of the others, but everyone is really professional and mature and really, really talented in their own rights. There’s a lot of respect.”
“Chris is a great actor.”
“I really enjoyed watching Chris perform Single Ladies.”
“I liked when Chris and Lea did Defying Gravity. That was dope.”
Aw, those Mark quotes are so sweet.
